Biography

Liang Dong is an internationally active percussionist, artistic director, and cultural entrepreneur, currently serving as a Visiting Professor at the Royal Conservatory of Brussels. Recognized for his dynamic artistry and cross-cultural vision, he has established a strong presence on the global stage, bridging Eastern and Western musical traditions through both performance and research.

He has presented over fifty solo recitals across more than twenty countries throughout Europe, Asia, and North America, with performances in Germany, France, the Netherlands, Belgium, China, and Singapore. As a concerto soloist, Liang has collaborated with leading European orchestras including the Cologne Symphony Orchestra, the Bavarian Symphony Orchestra, the Rhineland Philharmonic Orchestra, the Aachen Chamber Orchestra, and the Bremen Chamber Orchestra. His performances are noted for their technical precision, expressive depth, and refined musicality.

A prizewinner of numerous international competitions, Liang has been awarded First Prize at the St. Petersburg Conservatory International Music Competition and the Asian International Arts Competition, and was named World Champion in both percussion and snare drum at the Zhongxin International Music Competition in Singapore.

In addition to his performance career, Liang is actively engaged in international music education and adjudication. He serves as a Standing Committee Member and Final Jury of the National Youth Art Festival (Central Conservatory of Music, China), and has been invited as a jury member for major international competitions, including the 18th, 19th, and 20th Zhongxin International Music Competitions (Final Round Jury), as well as an invited expert for the 8th World Marimba Competition. Through these roles, he has gained wide recognition within the global percussion community.

As a cultural leader, Liang is the Founder and CEO of Hemiola Cultural Media and the creator of the Qingyin International Music Competition, both dedicated to building high-level international platforms for young musicians and fostering cross-cultural artistic exchange.

Liang holds Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees from the Hochschule für Musik und Tanz Köln in Germany, graduating with top honors. He is currently pursuing a Doctor of Musical Arts (DMA) degree at the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music (CCM), where his research focuses on the integration of Chinese percussion traditions into contemporary Western musical frameworks.

Combining the roles of performer, educator, and artistic visionary, Liang Dong continues to expand the expressive boundaries of percussion, exploring the relationship between rhythm, timbre, and cultural identity in a global context.
